Computer/paper balance

Wednesday, April 11th, 2007

Challenged by Blogmaster, to find another blog to post to, turned into a major project - mainly because I thought it’d be easy! Ecademy seemed to lose my postblog submission - and no feedback to my wrong-doing! I already knew of ‘Getting Things Done’ and 43folders, there must of lots of relevant stuff out there! You’d think one would suit my style!

I did eventually find one that took my fancy, a very recently started blog, so I was extra pleased with my choice, Corrie Haffly’s personal blog. I even got a challenge! Why did I feel guilty for still using paper (for organising myself).

I suppose because of my IT career, I feel destined to promote the ideal of saving all those trees! “Why is it so much easier to read from paper” she wails!

I’ve always admired those who have everything “online”. How sleek and pristine they look - until they need to carry everything to those event locations where high tech hasn’t quite arrived to meet the needs of group communication!

How well are computers managing you?

Easter reflection - wiifm to understand myself?

Saturday, April 7th, 2007

A heavy cold slowed me down this week, after a particularly busy few days (a common sign I’m doing too much). Then a couple of events caused me to stop and ponder the value of my blogging topic. Am I the only person interested finding out about myself?

“What is the point of understanding me really?”, I internalised. Will it help or hinder me regarding making changes? I had been doing a few things recently to improve skills in known areas of weakness.eg sales . One or two ‘challenges’ and I’m wondering “Am I wasting my time?”

It often happens, when we think of a weakness, we wonder why it has to be so and wish for something different. How much should we hide it? How can we work around it? How can we fix it? The thing about a weakness is that it usually is a strength in another circumstance. Nic Rixon tells a fine story about some parents who were finding it difficult to reason with their teenage daughter who is stubborn, single-minded and determined. For her success in life, would they like her to have or not to have those qualities?

Then, as always happens, a couple of coaching successes later in the week lifted my spirits and I realised once again that skills and natural preferences aren’t the same thing. Once again my motivation for learning, particularly about myself, is back to par. What’s In It For Me? It will ultimately save me time in understanding where I’m likely to risk success, what help to get, what is to be the best goal for me.

Now, I remember somebody recently saying I might have an issue with confidence……..let me consider….. how I need facts to make decisions and keep my mind open…..and….!
